German Navy ends Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 After 208 days, the Indo-Pacific Deployment (IPD) of the German Navy ended on 1 December 2024 at the Spanish naval base in Rota. The unit covered a total of around 45,000 nautical miles (83,000 kilometres), the equivalent of two circumnavigations of the globe. The frigate "Baden-Württemberg" is now preparing for the upcoming UNIFIL mission (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) and will therefore remain in the Mediterranean. DLR and Federal Police strengthen cooperation in maritime security

The German Aerospace Centre (DLR in Cologne) and the German Federal Police (BPol) are working more closely together in the field of maritime security. The Chairwoman of the DLR Executive Board and the President of the Federal Police Headquarters (Potsdam) signed a cooperation agreement in Neustadt/Holstein on 21 November 2024. Vietnam: Strategic airfield on an atoll of the Spratly Islands

Vietnam has been adding more artificial islands since 2021. According to Radio Free Asia, the country has added more than 600 hectares of dry land around the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea in the last year alone. The largest activity took place on 'Barque Canada Reef', an atoll about 400 kilometres southwest of Spratly Island and about 630 kilometres southeast of Vietnam. The Philippine island of Palawan lies around 430 kilometres to the west.
