US Navy ends the LCS experiment

The US Navy is drawing a line under the altogether rather 'frustrating' LCS experiment. It's not official yet, but we know, because it's been an agonising process for a long time. Now the nine Freedom-class Littoral Combat Ships are probably destined for disposal. The most recent was commissioned in 2020, as the US Navy was never really happy with this experiment. The ships - USS Fort Worth (LCS-3), USS Milwaukee (LCS-5), USS Detroit (LCS-7), USS Little Rock (LCS-9), USS Sioux City (LCS-11), USS Wichita (LCS-13), USS Billings (LCS-15) and USS St. Louis (LCS-19) - are among the 24 Littoral Combat Ships...

Zelenskyy calls on Norway to prevent Russian ships from entering European harbours

In a broadcast speech to the Norwegian parliament on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the delivery of additional weapons to Ukraine and Oslo to prevent Russian ships from docking in their harbours. He called for additional weapons and reiterated the importance of sanctions to stop Russia. Turkish navy defuses floating mine

On Saturday, the Turkish Ministry of Defence announced that a sea mine floating in the Black Sea off the entrance to the Bosporus had been defused. The mine was discovered by fishermen, as reported by Reuters. Turkish navy units are currently patrolling the Bosphorus more intensively anyway and have quickly deployed a minehunter to the area. When the object in question was identified as a mine, it was towed to a safe area and detonated. Maritime traffic was able to continue unhindered. The Turkish navy stated that it was an "old type" of ammunition. The minehunter "Akcay" of the Aydin class was used, a licence-built ship according to...

14th Armaments Report - K 130 & F 125 in focus

In mid-February - six days before the Russian invasion of Ukraine - we asked ourselves whether the German government was waking up from its slumber in view of the threat on Europe's eastern flank with regard to the defence force and its expenditure. Specifically, we wrote in an article: The media image is dominated by the Russian combat vehicles that have deployed in a horseshoe shape around eastern Ukraine. [...] Is Moscow's current threat sufficient to awaken Berlin from its slumber, or will it fall back into old patterns once the crisis is over? How do you finance the defence against the backdrop of an overstretched defence budget and...
