First-ever joint exercise of unmanned and manned surface ships by NAVCENT As Defence News reports, the US Fifth Fleet has conducted an exercise called New Horizon, in which a MANTAS T-12 drone integrated into Task Force 59 operated with manned US patrol boats and Bahrain Defense Force units for the first time. MANTAS T-12 is an unmanned multi-purpose surface vessel that can be used for patrols, SAR missions and maritime surveillance. And here's a short message to go with a nice photo: The British Royal Navy Carrier Strike Group 21 (CSG 21) is now in the Middle East to conduct exercises with friendly Gulf neighbours. The F-35s are to work together with the air forces of Oman and the United Arab Emirates in the Persian Gulf. The HMS Queen Elisabeth encountered the Shabab Oman II, the sail training ship of the Oman Navy. The sailing vessel has been part of the permanent training programme for Omani cadets since 2014, was built in Romania and fitted out in the Netherlands (Damen Shipyards). She is 87 metres long, 11 metres wide and has a sail area of 2,700 square metres.
