German Navy in Singapore

Safe sea routes are essential for our prosperity and well-being in Europe. And we don't even want to imagine what would happen if the Strait of Malacca were to be disrupted. The second is that many nations, smaller nations and partners in the Indo-Pacific region feel that the international rules-based order is at risk because there are nations that do not abide by them. And we want to make that very clear,

Commissioning of the ocean-going tug "Borkum"

Second-hand purchase joins the fleet - a success story? And today the new addition to the fleet was put into service. It has been known for years that the German Navy had a problem with outdated tugs. But it was only when the old units could no longer be repaired profitably and they were virtually forced to give them up that they looked around. New build? Takes too long, procurement doesn't work. Netherlands: From walrus to orca

Now it has been finalised. On 30 September, the CEO of the French Naval Group and the State Secretary of the Dutch Ministry of Defence signed a delivery agreement for four Barracuda submarines to the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder. The procurement decision was made in March (marineforum online reported). Naval Group beat the German tkMS and the Dutch-Swedish Damen-SAAB/Kockums tandem out of the race with its newly developed Blacksword Barracuda class. Barracuda Shortfin is the diesel-electric variant of the French Navy's Suffren-class nuclear-powered submarines. The new Orka class, consisting of the boats "Orka", "Zwaardvis", "Barracuda" and "Tijgerhaai" will replace the submarines currently in service.

Venezuela: New weapons from Iran

Iran is the preferred supplier of missiles for the Venezuelan navy - the Armada Bolivariana de Venezuela. A number of CM-90 maritime target missiles (range 90 kilometres) were recently purchased there, including the support facilities (workshops) and training required to operate and deploy these missiles. These weapons can now also be used to equip the PEYKAAP fast patrol boat platforms that were also purchased from Iran last year, as reported. The exchange of Western weapons systems and platforms with those of friendly countries - not many, especially Russia and Iran, but also China when the opportunity arises - is thus progressing. Interest is shown in...

Roar like a tiger

The Tiger Meet has been an established NATO event for many years. A Sea Lynx from MFG 5 also took part, sporting a striking special livery. Tiger! Tiger! Tiger! - The battle cry of the participants at the NATO Tiger Meet 2024, which was organised by Tactical Air Wing 51 at Jagel Air Base for the third time this year after 2004 and 2014, will probably ring in the ears of the "NATO Tigers" for a long time to come. This year, for the first time in the history of the German Navy, eleven soldiers from Naval Air Wing 5 (MFG 5) from Nordholz took part in this NATO high-value exercise, in which...
