Ukrainian southern offensive exploits weaknesses in the Russian navy

Following the strengthening of Ukrainian coastal defences in the north-west quadrant of the Black Sea in recent weeks, the southern offensive just launched by the Ukrainian armed forces could promise success, as Russia is clearly no longer in a position to control and "hold down" this coastal section from the sea. On the contrary: Ukraine has shown with individual steps that it can certainly disrupt the enemy forces around Sevastopol with targeted attacks in such a way that the Russian navy can only move safely in the area of the coastal defence of Crimea. Seen on the timeline The damage to and sinking of the "Moskva" on 14 April...

Russian navy off the English coast.

A Russian convoy consisting of the cruiser "Marshal Ustinov" (Slava class, project 1164, sister ship of the "Moskva"), the destroyer "Vice Admiral Kulakov" (Udaloy class type ship, project 1155) and the tanker "Vyazma" (Kaliningradneft class) is reportedly on a transfer from the Mediterranean back to the Northern Fleet and its home ports on the Barents Sea. The convoy, which also included the frigate "Admiral Kasatonov" (Gorshkov class, project 22350), had moved southwards past Ireland to the vicinity of the feared war region in January before the start of the Ukraine war and had been in the Mediterranean after the Bosporus was closed - and will now probably have to return to its home ports in the...

Black Sea Fleet: Reloading the Kalibr cruise missiles

Three weeks ago, the Ukrainian news agency "The Guildhall Agency" published a satellite image that led reconnaissance officers in Kiev to conclude that Kalibr cruise missiles were being reloaded on the frigate "Admiral Grigorovich" at the naval base in Sevastopol. The images were taken on 10 August - the following day, the Ukrainian air defence forces reported the launch of two Kalibr cruise missiles fired from the Black Sea area. But the questions remain unanswered as to how many FKs were reloaded in Sevastopol, whether they were actually ready for use the following day and how many Kalibr reached their targets - unfortunately! So how sustainable is the supply chain with these...

The lifting will come into force on 1 January 2023, giving charterers, shipowners and operators time to adapt to the changing threat of piracy....

Polish Navy takes delivery of second Kormoran-class minehunter

In mid-August, Polish shipbuilder Remontowa Shipbuilding handed over the second boat of the Kormoran class minehunter (project 528, 850 tonnes) to the Polish Navy. The 58 metre long "Albatros" had previously undergone several months of sea trials and acceptance voyages to prove the full functionality of all systems on board. This was also of particular importance as the type boat had already been commissioned five years ago and a number of modifications were made to numbers two and three on the basis of the knowledge gained from the "Kormoran". For example, improvements were made to the sensor suite and a more modern artillery system was installed (replacement...
