Die Royal Navy hat einen Vertrag mit Airbus zur satellitengestützten maritimen Überwachung um ein Jahr verlängert. Vorangegangen war eine Proof-of-concept-Phase. Dem Joint Maritime Security Centre (JMSC) werden im Rahmen des Abkommens Bilder aus optischen und Radarquellen und daraus generierte Berichte zur Verfügung gestellt. Damit wird auch weiterhin die lückenlose Beobachtung aller Fahrzeuge in wichtigen britischen Seegebieten ermöglicht. Das JMSC ist das Centre of Excellence für maritime Sicherheit der britischen Regierung. Die nun von Airbus gelieferten Daten ergänzen und verfeinern die eigenen Beobachtungen der Dienststelle. Am vergangenen Samstag (26. Juni) hat die kanadische Marine die Harry DeWolf in Dienst gestellt. Sie ist seit fast 25 Jahren der erste Neubau, der zur Flotte der Kanadier hinzustößt. Das erste von sechs geplanten Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships (AOPS) wird zusammen mit ihren Schwestern den Fokus des Landes wieder auf Operationen in der Arktis richten.
