Visiting the Queen

We have already reported on the unusual guest in Hamburg harbour. For shipspotters - British aircraft carrier visits Hamburg On Thursday we had the privileged opportunity to visit the large warship. For security reasons, it was not open to the public, and we from Mittler-Report were not able to get on board without further ado, but had to undergo the professional and very careful security checks carried out by the Hamburg Home Guard. The comrades from the state command obviously had their hands full making sure our friends had a good stay. Once on board, we were met by an officer and a chief, who were very professional and...

Specialised flight training of the German Navy secured

The idea of not using the comparatively expensive flying hours of the operational aircraft for basic flight training, but instead using an almost commercially available machine efficiently and in a concentrated manner with a civilian operator, originated at the Naval Air Command and has been practised in this way for years. But what is innovative and cost-cutting had to be fought for with a great deal of effort and proof. In the meantime, this good idea has become a standard, as the following press release from the BAAINBw shows: The Bundeswehr Procurement Office recently concluded a framework agreement with the company HeliOperations for specialised flight training for the German Navy. Partly financed from the special assets of the Bundeswehr, this means that the...

For shipspotters - British aircraft carrier visits Hamburg

A rare guest is expected in the port of Hamburg: Aircraft carrier HMS "Queen Elizabeth" (65,600 tonnes) of the British Royal Navy is part of a NATO exercise and is making its inaugural visit to Hamburg. The aircraft carrier was originally due to arrive in Hamburg on Monday morning. However, according to the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), the arrival was delayed due to strong winds. Contrary to expectations, however, the aircraft carrier arrived at the cruise terminal in Steinwerder at around 15:00. Steinwerder was chosen because the water police can shield the warship particularly well there. Prior to this, the harbour area was searched and the harbour basin submerged. In addition to the police, the...

Maritime Convention 2024, Berlin - More globally relevant than ever

The 17th edition of the Maritime Convention 2024 in Berlin took place in the shadow of several political events. The format remains unchanged, a large audience that is continuously represented by younger people has remained loyal for many years, the topics are always highly topical and the relevance of the maritime sector is emphasised anew every year. The German Maritime Institute (DMI) should be delighted with this trend, which has been observed for years, as its aim is to bring the maritime idea to the inland and into people's consciousness. However, the growing presence of the maritime world is developing in an increasingly unpeaceful world - and this is certainly...
