The Kiel-based shipyard German Naval Yards, together with Rheinmetall Project Solutions GmbH (Düsseldorf) and another partner from the offshore sector, is bidding for the construction of a platform for the disposal of munitions from the Baltic Sea. The jointly developed platform could be deployed as a pilot plant in the Kolberger Heide munitions dumping area at the entrance to the Kiel Fjord before mid-2024 and dispose of conventional munitions such as torpedo heads, mines and artillery shells in an environmentally friendly manner.
