Green light for second Constellation frigate

Fincantieri Marinette Marine has received an order from the US Department of Defence for the construction of another frigate. It will be the second ship of the future Constellation class, whose design is based on the French-Italian Fremm frigates. From the mid-twenties, they were to replace the US Navy's unpopular and weakly armed Littoral Combat Ships. The volunteer sea rescuers at the traditional DGzRS station have a state-of-the-art 10.1-metre newbuild of the latest generation. France buys more SAR helicopters

France has ordered two more H 160 helicopters from Airbus, as announced by the French procurement authority Direction générale de l'armement (DGA) on 20 May. They are to be delivered in a special, slightly militarised search-and-rescue version. Babcock will install an electro-optical system from the French company Safran for this purpose.
