Next Thursday, the commander of the frigate "Bayern", Frigate Captain Tilo Kalski, will hand over his command to Frigate Captain Dennis Fauerbach after two and a half years. The commander of the 2nd frigate squadron, Captain Torben Jürgensen, will lead the handover ceremony.
In addition to numerous smaller voyages, Frigate Captain Kalski led the first German "Indo Pacific Deployment" (IPD) in years during his time in command. "The fact that these projects could all be completed on time and extremely successfully, against all odds and despite the massive restrictions imposed by coronavirus measures, is due solely to the fantastic crew of this ship. My men and women have taken on and mastered every challenge with incredible vigour and willpower. The past few years have been both exciting and instructive as well as demanding and stressful for me, and it is only thanks to their constant support and backing that I can look back on a fulfilling time in command, despite all the adversities," says the outgoing commander, summarising the seven-month voyage. The F123 class ship travelled around 43,000 nautical miles during IPD.
In future, the "Bayern" and its crew will be led by Frigate Captain Fauerbach. The 42-year-old is moving from the Allied Joint Force Command headquarters in Brunssum (Netherlands) to the bridge of the frigate.
Best wishes to the outgoing and incoming commanders for their new assignments!
