Change of command at the Naval NCO School

Today, Tuesday 30 March 2021, the Commanding Officer Support, Rear Admiral Christoph Müller-Meinhard (56), handed over command of the Naval NCO School (MUS) from Captain Matthias Kähler (64) to Captain Klaus Heermeier (61) in front of the school's traditional mast.

After 46 years of service in the armed forces, the last six of which as commander of the Naval NCO School, Captain Kähler can look back on a varied career as a naval officer. "Leading means knowing your people, correctly assessing their abilities and limits, trusting them and having confidence in them. Leadership is not an end in itself, but must always be geared towards achieving a common goal. Teaching my soldiers this was the aim of my almost six years as Commandant of the Naval NCO School. I am leaving this school with the famous laughing and crying eyes - together we have achieved a lot, and at the same time I will miss the great people who make up the MUS," he concludes. Captain Kähler will take his well-deserved retirement on 31 March 2021.

The new school commander, Captain Heermeier, comes from the Naval Command, where he has been in charge of training for the past eight years. From 2003 to 2004, Captain Heermeier was already responsible for the implementation of supervisor training as commander of Teaching Group A of the Naval NCO School. "I look back on a truly good time, both professionally and privately, at the Naval Command and on the Baltic Sea. Now I am turning my gaze and looking forward to the Naval NCO School for a second time and again full of expectations - and privately, my wife and I are returning to where we started our family 38 years ago," says the future commander.

Against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, the handover of command only took place with a small circle of invited guests from the military and public life as well as small delegations from the school staff and teaching groups. The Kiel Naval Music Corps provided the musical accompaniment to the handover.
