On Wednesday, 29 September 2021 at 9 am, the commander of the 2nd Frigate Squadron, Captain Christian Scherrer (47), will hand over command of the frigate "Hessen" from Frigate Captain Hans-Ulrich Geißler (44) to his successor, Frigate Captain Volker Kübsch (42).
Frigate Captain Geißler took command of the "Hessen" in October 2019 and has experienced a lot with the F124 class ship and its crew since then. "I look back on the end of my time in command of the frigate 'Hessen' with a smile and a tear in my eye. After this long and difficult shipyard phase, I would have loved to have experienced sea voyages with my crew and mastered the challenges that lay ahead. I am equally looking forward to the coming personal changes
and the new tasks that my new post will entail, as well as being able to hand over the 'Hessen' to an outstanding successor and my friend, Frigate Captain Volker Kübsch, and to know that both the ship and the crew are in good hands. I wish the crew and Frigate Captain Kübsch every soldier's happiness," said the outgoing commander. He will move to the Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg) in Berlin.

His successor, Frigate Captain Kübsch, is now moving to the bridge of the frigate "Hessen" after serving as a policy advisor for military training and exercises in the BMVg. "I am looking forward to my new role with great anticipation - to be honest, with real enthusiasm. During the last few days of the handover, I could clearly feel that the crew of the "Hessen" is now literally longing to experience seafaring again after a long shipyard phase. I am all the more looking forward to the upcoming challenges with this excellent ship and its outstanding crew and would like to thank my predecessor and friend, Frigate Captain Hans-Ulrich Geißler, in particular," said the naval officer, looking ahead to the upcoming command.
