Double success for HMS "Montrose"

Drugs worth almost thirteen million euros will never find their way to the consumer. The crew of the British frigate HMS "Montrose" has made sure of this. The ship is currently stationed in Bahrain for three years and regularly patrols the Arabian Sea from there. The embarked Royal Marines first searched a suspicious dhow. "After securing the vehicle, we discovered the drugs in large bags containing individually wrapped parcels," said Lieutenant Gorton, the team leader, describing the procedure. "When we opened the packages, we were pretty sure they were illegal substances. In a twelve-hour operation, a total of 275 kilograms of heroin with a street value of almost 6.2 million euros was seized and brought on board the frigate.
Just 36 hours later, the team was on its way to another suspicious boat. Here, too, they quickly made a find: They found a colourful mixture of hashish, heroin and methamphetamines in hundreds of sacks, bags and packages. The packages were scattered all over the boat, with a total weight of 2145 kilos. The value of this find amounts to around 6.5 million euros.
