Egypt joins CMF

As announced, Egypt has now become the 34th member of the multinational Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) coalition, which aims to enforce law and order at sea. It was founded only recently, marineforum.online reported on 22.04.22.

The CMF takes action against illegal non-state actors on the high seas. Vice Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the US Naval Forces, US 5th Fleet and the CMF, welcomed Egypt's accession during a visit to Alexandria on 12 April.

The CMF's area of operation covers some of the world's most important shipping lanes with more than 3 million square miles of international waters, including the major choke points of the Suez Canal, Bab al Mandeb and the Strait of Hormuz.
