Electric vehicles: underestimated fire risk at sea?

Motor vehicles are shipped across the world by sea to their eagerly awaiting customers. However, the fire on the "Fremantle Highway" now clearly shows that shipping companies and ship owners are inadequately prepared for the current battery technology - especially for electric cars - and are unable to manage the risk of fires that are difficult to control.

Cause of fire

The difficulty of bringing a battery fire under control was brought into the spotlight by the wrecked car transporter off the Dutch coast. The Dutch coastguard announced

  1. Why don't you make extra compartments for electric cars, e.g. fifty each, which you can use separately?
    Then thousands of cars would not be scrap plus the environment.
