Frigate "Rheinland-Pfalz" under new command

Today, Thursday 4 September 2025, the commander of the 4th Frigate Squadron, Frigate Captain Volker Kübsch, handed over command of the frigate "Rheinland-Pfalz" to Frigate Captain Benedikt Eichhorn.

"Taking command of the frigate 'Rheinland-Pfalz' is both an honour and an obligation for me. Especially because we find ourselves in a time when maritime security is of particular importance. I would like to thank my predecessor and the crew for their professionalism and perseverance," said the new commander. The frigate "Rheinland-Pfalz" is currently in the shipyard for a scheduled maintenance period. The new commander is already looking to the future and swearing his crew in for the time ahead.

Frigate Captain Eichhorn is familiar with the Class 125 frigates, as he was chief officer of the former "Alpha" crew from 2020-2022. Most recently, he was a consultant in the Office of the Inspector General of the German Armed Forces.

  1. Dear Mr Haugk - thank you very much for your comment.
Of course, we would also like to report more frequently on changes of personnel on boats, because the position of a commander on a boat (company level) is something special and is recognised by the wearing of the officer's star on the right side of the chest of the uniform. We in the editorial team know that such news is read and distributed with pleasure. However, we also reach our limits with this, as the magazine marineforum and its online presence are independent under press law and therefore not an official communication organ of the Navy. As you have probably already guessed, since we are not part of the naval command, we are also dependent on information from the relevant press offices of the German Armed Forces and the Navy. Unfortunately, we only receive information from them sporadically, as the press offices are reluctant to publish personal details.
If you enter various search terms on marineforum.online, such as corvette, commander, minesweeper, tender or submarine, you will be shown a large number of reports on the boats. If you are missing something specific, please let us know. It would be even better if you could provide us with a corresponding article with a picture (please observe image rights), which we would then be happy to publish online.
    With maritime greetings
    Your editors
