Change of command at all naval base commands of Operational Flotilla 1

Kiel - On Wednesday, 25 September 2024 at 1 p.m., there will be a premiere at the German Navy. All commanders of the naval base commands in Kiel, Eckernförde and Warnemünde will hand over their command to their successors together in Kiel.

The commander of Operational Flotilla 1, Flotilla Admiral Sascha Helge Rackwitz, commented: "This year we are celebrating a novelty in Operational Flotilla 1: three changes of command of the three naval bases belonging to the flotilla in one go: Kiel, Eckernförde and Warnemünde. We will be celebrating the ceremonial handover of command in Kiel, the headquarters of the flotilla. This means that the commanders will have to share the limelight a little. But we are doing this precisely to shine a bright spotlight on the bases and their special and increasing importance. After all, the bases are far more than just the home harbour for the Navy's combat units. They provide an indispensable service for the German Navy's ability to act and for the Alliance as a whole, in the Baltic Sea region and far beyond. Supplying not only in the harbour, but also the logistical connection of our units in their projects worldwide, supporting our allies with everything that is needed, but also looking after our servicemen and women - all this and more is the task of the bases. The outgoing commanders, Captains Jan Dobberstein, Robert Lehmann and Olaf Oertel, have done ground-breaking work here. But it will continue to be at least as challenging and exciting for their successors!"

His successors will be Frigate Captain Frank Hallmann in Kiel, Corvette Captain Martin Paul Rose in Warnemünde and Frigate Captain Rouven Grünhagen in Eckernförde.
