Half-time for the Indo-Pacific Squadron

Since May 2024, the frigate "Baden-Württemberg" and the task force provider "Frankfurt am Main" have been underway as part of the Indo-Pacific Deployment (IPD) until December 2024. Previous milestones for the naval unit have included participation in "Fleetweek" in New York, the passage of the Panama Canal, the joint transit with friends and partners from Mexico, Peru, Canada and the USA as well as participation in the world's largest US-led naval manoeuvre "RIMPAC (Rim of the Pacific)".

"No matter what challenges my men and women were faced with - whether participating in RIMPAC or working with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force - my unit did a great job. My special thanks go to them," said Flotilla Admiral Axel Schulz. However, he also emphasised that this defence policy circumnavigation of the globe is now entering a new phase: "So far we have taken part in many exercises, but our actual mission, the visible presence and cooperation with our value partners in the Indo-Pacific, begins with the departure from Tokyo.

The unit will now be deployed to Incheon, Manila, Jakarta and Singapore. The focus is on participating in the multinational "Noble Raven" exercise and monitoring the United Nations sanctions against North Korea.

  1. Hello everyone,

Positive signals must now come from Berlin. It is important to show presence and drive through the Taiwan Strait.
