About us
MarineForum Online is the German-language platform for maritime news from the fields of security policy, technology and the armed forces. On this website, we supplement and deepen the topics discussed in detail in the specialist journal MarineForum, which is published ten times a year, with up-to-the-minute information. The unique interplay of the two publication channels contributes to opinion-forming in politics, the German Navy and the maritime industry with expertise and discourse.
Tradition meets modernity. Because with MarineForum Online you have access to the resources of the German Maritime Competence Network (DMKN) and the Blogs "Understanding the sea". Both have significantly shaped maritime reporting in Germany over the past decades. This information is brought together with current topics from three organisations: the Naval Officers' Association (MOV)the Naval Officers' Aid (MOH) and the German Maritime Institute (DMI). There are also ideas and discussions from the Naval Innovation Team (NIT)which, with its young members, questions the traditional and creates space for the new. You can find out more about the associations and their members on the respective subpages.
The DMI acts as publisher for the online and print editions. It is supported by the renowned Mittler-Report-Verlag publishing house as a long-standing partner. MarineForum and MarineForum Online are non-partisan and independent. We are neither financially supported by ministries and authorities nor by the German Navy. Our reputation stems from the association of a large number of recognised experts from our country's maritime and security policy community.
With the establishment of MarineForum Online the editor and publisher have laid the essential building blocks for a successful future together. The established brands have been merged in order to emphasise the maritime message even more in future. To this end, social media will also be increasingly involved. With news, images, reports and podcasts from the military-maritime world, we want to keep you up to date at all times. The combination of MarineForum and MarineForum Online lets you easily 1TP5Understanding the sea.
German Maritime Institute (DMI)
Founded in 1973 as the German Marine Institute, the DMI has been representing maritime issues in the public arena for over 40 years. Since then, the focus has shifted from defence at sea to general issues of maritime security in times of globalisation.
Naval Officers' Association (MOV)
The MOV is a community of values and interests of all naval officers and persons who are associated with the aims of the MOV. The MOV is aimed at active and former naval officers, naval officer candidates and all persons who feel connected to the German Navy.
