Maritime Convention

Of course, one person could not be missing at the 16th Maritime Convention under the motto "50 years of the German Maritime Institute": Rolf Martens, founding member of the DMI and first editor-in-chief of marineforum. He is the last living founder of the institute, a contemporary witness who remembers exactly why the DMI was founded back then: "When we founded the institute 50 years ago, it was not a spontaneous foundation. It was something we had been thinking about for several years. We wanted to create a circle that would deal with maritime issues in an overarching way." The foundation of the German Maritime Institute - initially still called the "German Marine Institute" - was intended to achieve a stronger external impact. Then as now, this was complemented by the marineforum magazine. This combination of institute and magazine was and is important in order not only to inform and educate, but also to involve other institutions, for example in the form of seminar and lecture series or scientific papers. How does Rolf Martens assess the development from the analogue beginnings to the digital age today? Watch the whole interview now!
