Last week saw a celebration at Tamsen Maritim in Rostock: The keel was laid for the second of the new wadden-compatible customs vessels. The 23-metre-long boats are made of aluminium and equipped with the latest technology. From autumn next year, they will be deployed as patrol boats in the German areas of the North and Baltic Seas. They will reach their maximum speed of 20 knots thanks to two engines, each with 882 kW. They can carry up to six people. Thanks to their shallow draught of just 1.2 metres, they are particularly suitable for use in the Bodden and Wadden areas. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the shipyard managed to minimise delays.
