Corvette K130 II. Lot at at Blohm+Voss (Naval Vessels Lürssen) baptised.
The NVL Group invited guests to the ceremony on the Elbe in sunny May weather. The K130 consortium, consisting of NVL B.V. & Co. KG, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems GmbH and GERMAN NAVAL YARDS KIEL GmbH, performed the ceremonial inauguration. Christening of the corvette KARLSRUHE on 7 May 2024 at 2 p.m. in Hamburg. The NVL shipyard group was represented at the ceremony by its CEO, Mr Tim Wagner.
Among the guests was the First Mayor of the City of Karlsruhe, Mrs Gabriele Luczak-Schwarz, who, as godmother, was particularly pleased to finally have a ship with the name of her city in the German Navy's fleet again after the frigate "Karlsruhe" (Class 122) was decommissioned in June 2017.
Also present was the Inspector of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack, who is a frequent traveller these days, as the Indo-Pacific Deployment Association had just left the ports of Wilhelmshaven and Rota/Spain that morning on this year's world tour with a diplomatic government mission. As always with armaments projects, Flotilla Admiral Andreas Czerwinski, Head of the Maritime Division at the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), was also present.
After the "Emden" and the "Köln", the "Karlsruhe" is the third of the new corvettes in the second batch for the German Navy. Like the five units of the first batch, they will be assigned to the 1st Corvette Squadron and have their home port in Rostock-Warnemünde.
