On Wednesday, 28 September 2022, the commander of Operational Flotilla 1, Flotilla Admiral Henning Faltin (56), handed over command of the Navy's Special Forces Command (KSM) from Frigate Captain Sven Rump (47) to Frigate Captain Sebastian Schuldt (39).

Frigate Captain Rump has led the Bundeswehr's oldest special forces unit since 2019 "Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the KSM successfully continued all existing missions and, as the lead unit and troop provider, expanded the commitment of German special forces in Niger as part of the EUTM (European Union Training Mission) Mali," said Rump. At the same time, the successful conclusion of the 2021 budget discussions marked a milestone for the significant expansion of the organisation from 2023. "I am delighted to be able to hand over responsibility for the organisation to a comrade who is held in high regard by me and the KSM." In future, Frigate Captain Rump will perform his duties at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College in Hamburg. Frigate Captain Schuldt comes from the Bundeswehr Operations Command. For him, taking over the command also represents a return to the Eckernförde base. "They say that being a commander is the best thing that can happen to you in a military career. As a combat swimmer, it is a special honour for me to lead the Navy's Special Forces Command in the future. Above all, I am looking forward to working closely with the men and women of this special unit, mastering the challenges ahead of us together and shaping the future of the KSM together."
