The Maritime Convention is one of the most important meetings of the maritime security community. This year it also went ashore.
On 11 November, the annual conference of maritime experts traditionally took place at the Representation of the State of Schleswig-Holstein to the Federal Government in the Ministerial Gardens in Berlin. Despite their affinity with the Rhineland, the German Maritime Institute and Griephan, as organisers, had little reason to be jolly on this carnival day, as the topic „The Security of the European Peninsula: Continental & Maritime“ was all too serious. Karsten Schneider, retired Rear Admiral and President of the German Maritime Institute, welcomed those present from the armed forces, science, industry and politics. Although the latter were not represented by elected officials, they were represented by young junior staff from parliamentary offices. And of course, as every year, many confidants, functionaries and alumni were present, as well as half a dozen admirals, some of them newly promoted and in office, such as the Commander of the Fleet, Vice Admiral Axel Deertz.

The magazine MarineForum is published ten times a year. The publication of the Naval Officers' Association (MOV) is published by the German Maritime Institute (DMI). It is independent, non-partisan and is neither directly nor indirectly supported by ministries or other German authorities. This independence gives the magazine the character of a forum in which contradictory opinions are also discussed.
