Meyer Werft ship to sail again

Resorts World resumes Genting Dream cruises from Singapore.

After the provisional liquidators failed to revive their former brand, the investors and management of Genting Hong Kong's Dream Cruises confirmed that they will resume operations next month as Resorts World Cruises. Unable to restart Dream Cruises, the management team reached an agreement with the Chinese banks that owned one of Dream Cruises' ships and announced it would resume cruise operations from Singapore on 15 June.

The 150,695 gross tonne cruise ship was built by Meyer Werft and entered service in 2016 as part of Genting Hong Kong's efforts to build a new Asian cruise brand after Star Cruises, with which they started Asian cruising in the 1990s. The efforts to revitalise operations were made possible in part by Genting Hong Kong selling the 2020 cruise ship to a consortium of Chinese banks and leasing the vessel. Dream Cruises' two other cruise ships, as well as the unfinished Global Dream, remain trapped in the former company's liquidation.

As most of the cruise industry in Asia remains paused, the Genting Dream, which continues to operate under its former name, offers the best crew-to-passenger ratio in the region, according to Resorts. The only other major cruise line to resume cruises from Singapore is Royal Caribbean International.
