Critical IT services thus even better secured
With the implementation and operation of the so-called data centre network, or RzV for short, a completely new IT network of modern, expandable and standardised data centres is being set up and operated in the BMVg division in compliance with military security and information security requirements. The Ministry of Defence is thus positioning itself for the future with state-of-the-art cloud technology and securing critical IT infrastructures even better. To this end, the Bundeswehr Procurement Office today concluded a corresponding contract with the in-house company BWI GmbH. In addition to the procurement and operation of the IT components, the provision of the required infrastructure was also commissioned. The project thus marks the start of a dynamic and needs-based provision of data centre capacities. The data centres will be an essential cornerstone of the digitalisation of the Bundeswehr and for the armed forces in action.
The core of the RzV is the provision of a cloud-based infrastructure for the operation of the Bundeswehr private cloud, pCloudBw for short. This supports the central provision of IT services from a standardised and cloud-based IT infrastructure as well as the processing of data with different levels of confidentiality. A distributed infrastructure and the use of cloud technologies create a high level of resilience so that the operation of critical IT services can be ensured at all times. The in-house company BWI GmbH will operate the data centres with different manufacturers in a future-proof manner. A test, integration and development environment will also be procured for further developments and tests. The provision of the first data centre capacities is already planned for 2026, after which the RzV will gradually grow until 2030.
