Fleet intensifies activities on NATO's northern flank: Corvette becomes part of SNMG 1
Corvette "Erfurt" has sailed from Wilhelmshaven to join the Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1).
The crew was bid farewell by Parliamentary State Secretary Siemtje Möller and Rear Admiral Jürgen zur Mühlen, Head of Operations at the Naval Command.
The K130 class corvette actually left its home port of Warnemünde last Saturday to take part in the UNIFIL mission (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) off the coast of Lebanon. The current reason for this measure is the escalating Russia-Ukraine crisis and the increased threat perceived by Germany's partners in Eastern Europe in particular.
