The previous project operator Hong Kong Nicaragua Canal Development Investment (HKND) has had its concession for construction and licence for operation withdrawn by the Nicaraguan National Assembly following an amendment to the law. The project, which was already severely delayed as a competitor to the Panama Canal, has not (yet) been finalised, but is in state hands for the time being.
