Young talent concerns in the UK

Retired frigate captain James Bond back on active service

Who doesn't know it these days, whether fire brigade, police or armed forces: the competition for bright minds and nimble hands is in full swing. The German Armed Forces have been recruiting young talent with a variety of activities, including our own, such as the digital careers fair in September: marineforum.online/mission-marine

Our friends in the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Airforce, who are not affected by Brexit, are also facing a recruitment crisis. The number of British soldiers has fallen for the tenth year in a row. In the Army alone, there is a shortfall of 7,000 soldiers, in the Royal Navy the figure is 10.5 per cent according to unofficial figures. The Ministry of Defence has stated that the military can meet its operational requirements, but the Labour Party has accused the government of "running down" the armed forces. What parallels in Germany!

So it's no surprise that Commander James Bond, who was finally allowed to retire after more than 60 well-deserved years of service, was asked to step in once again. Why is that possible? Well, the British don't have the age limit of 65 like German reservists. The CIA, of all organisations, had to convince its British partners to reactivate the deserving officer once again. There, too, it seems to be difficult to find suitable personnel for special missions.

We tried in vain to get the old mate on the phone, Ms Moneypenny turned us away. He doesn't have time to die. Good luck Commander!
