Defence and electronics group Rohde und Schwarz opens a branch in Kiel
On 30 August 2023, a new company location was officially opened in Kiel Science Park with guests from politics, the Bundeswehr and business. From Kiel national and international marine projects.
Rohde & Schwarz has invested in the Kiel site and moved into new premises in order to expand its traditionally close co-operation with the German Navy.
Together with guests, including Daniel Günther - Minister President of Schleswig-Holstein, Dr Johann Wadephul - Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Dr Ulf Kämpfer - Lord Mayor of the state capital Kiel and Rear Admiral Christoph Müller-Meinhard - Commander Support and Head of the Operational Support Department of the German Navy, as well as numerous high-ranking participants from politics, the Bundeswehr and business, the centre of excellence was opened in Kiel Science Park.
Rohde & Schwarz has been a partner to more than 40 navies around the world for decades. Together with its location in Hamburg, the new Kiele, with its proximity to the naval and shipyard locations good conditions for long-term co-operation. The Rohde & Schwarz team from Kiel, which currently has around 60 employees, has been working on complex large-scale naval projects in the areas of software development, system engineering and integration for many years. The focus here is on systems for communication and electronic support measures (self-protection) on naval units. The technology group also favours cooperation with local partners and promotes talent in the north. The proximity to Kiel's Christian-Albrechts University and the Hermann Ehlers Foundation provides an ideal basis for a close exchange with research and teaching. An increase has already been planned for the new R & S Marine Competence Centre.
