The light weight and small size allow for flexible installation, resulting in a greater range without compromising the ship's structure or stability. The Sea Giraffe antenna weighs only 100kg. The German Navy has recently included Saab's Sea Giraffe 1X 3D Active Electronically Steered Array (AESA) surveillance radar in the project scope to upgrade the sensor systems on board its Brandenburg-class frigates (F123). They will be part of the refit programme of the 123 frigates with Abeking & Rasmussen Werft as prime contractor.
