Shipspotting: Multipurpose ship for final outfitting

The hull, built by Western Baltija Shipbuilding Klaipeda, was "caught" during the transfer voyage. It was transferred to the Abeking & Rasmussen (A&R) shipyard in Lemwerder, where it will be finally equipped and prepared for handover to the public client. When it is ready, it will be called "Neuwerk".

The 105-metre-long unit of the Federal Maritime Administration was hooked by the seagoing tug "Groß Nordsee" in Latvia on 24 May 2025 and passed through the Kiel Canal (NOK) on 27 May 2025 before reaching Lemwerder for final outfitting the following day.

After the "Scharhörn" and "Mellum", the "Neuwerk" is the third of the three multi-purpose vessels with a length of more than 90 metres for which the Abeking und Rasmussen shipyard is responsible. These are the most innovative and challenging projects the shipyard has ever worked on. A special feature is their use in LNG (liquefied natural gas) operation. In addition, these multi-purpose vessels are equipped with special equipment including a large helicopter landing deck in the foredeck area and an emergency towing device with a high bollard pull at the stern, chemical tanks with a volume of 1,000 cubic metres, an explosion-proof safety and container hold as well as oil recovery equipment (skimmer arm, collection tanks, separators). A ship for all hazardous and toxic situations!
