The Russian Pacific Fleet is expecting a new submarine

Since the 1980s, Russian submarines of the Kilo-class. These boats are not only successful nationally. A total of 55 of these diesel-electric units with a displacement of 2300 tonnes have been put into service. In addition to the Russian Navy, customers also include Poland, Romania and India. The successor model to the 636 project, the improved Kilo-class, almost twenty have been delivered since 1996. They are in reliable service with the People's Liberation Army Navy of the People's Republic of China, among others.

The latest submarine in the Kilo-class for the Russian Pacific Fleet (project 636.3) is now due to enter service in November. Built at the Admiralty shipyard in Saint Petersburg, the Magadan is said to have passed all the necessary tests. According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, in addition to the noise level and magnetic field measurements carried out in the first stage, the tests of maximum speed, manoeuvrability and diving depth were also successful. In addition, the sonar, radar, communication systems, propulsion and life support systems have been checked to ensure they are functioning properly. This means that nothing now stands in the way of commissioning. The new submarine was named after a harbour town on the Russian Pacific coast.
With a length of 74 metres, the Magadan The boat weighs 2350 tonnes when submerged and around 4000 tonnes when submerged. The diesel-electric drive gives the boat a maximum speed of 20 knots when submerged and 17 knots when surfaced. The crew includes around 50 soldiers. The boats of the Kilo-II class are equipped with six 533-millimetre torpedo tubes from which both torpedoes and Kalibr cruise missiles can be fired.
