Ukraine war: further explosions and drone attacks in Crimea

Just a few days after the significant explosions at the Saki airbase around 40 kilometres north of Sevastopol and the dismissal of the head of the Black Sea Fleet by Moscow, there were further attacks on Russian facilities on the Crimean peninsula. Exactly one week after the first incident, there were explosions at an ammunition depot on a Russian military base in the Dzhankoi district in the north of the island. The town of Dzhankoi is home to a military airfield in the immediate vicinity, which must be a helicopter base according to the satellite image - around 40 helicopters can be clearly recognised spread across the entire site.

Russian air defence "activated"

In the meantime, Russia has allegedly had its air defence systems "activated" for fear of a further escalation of the attacks in Crimea - so much for reassuring the population, where the reality of the war seems to be slowly sinking in. Russian authorities promptly report that a drone was shot down near the 18-kilometre-long bridge over the Kerch Strait, Crimea's vital link to the Russian Federation. Drones were also intercepted at Bel'bek Airport, just a few kilometres north of Sevastopol, which is now likely to be full of military aircraft. But it is enough if just one gets through: just today, the media reported another major explosion above or in the main building of the Black Sea Fleet in the harbour of Sevastopol. The Russian head of the city's administration reassures us that a drone was successfully destroyed above the staff building in the harbour facilities - only its remains fell onto the roof of the building. This is all unverifiable or unverified information, but the increasing accusations made by the Ukrainian authorities - who are skilfully shrouded in silence - clearly show the sheer nerve on the civilian and military side.

News article t-online:

Appeal by the Ukrainian President

"Please do not go near the military facilities of the Russian army and all those places where they store ammunition and equipment, where they have their headquarters. Be very careful!" Zelensky urged his Ukrainian citizens. "All (explosions) have the same goal: to destroy the logistics of the (Russian) occupiers, their ammunition, their military equipment and their command posts," the Ukrainian president explained. "The fewer opportunities the occupiers have to do evil and kill Ukrainians, the sooner we can end this war by liberating our country." A clear announcement!

Rasmus is also there

The weather is also playing in Ukraine's favour: on Saturday, a tornado apparently touched down near the Saki airfield in western Crimea, which was hit 10 days ago, and unfortunately also caused civilian damage there.
