Baltic Sea manoeuvres under German leadership

Northern Coasts 24 as the most important multinational exercise of Germany and its partners in the Baltic Sea region

This year's Northern Coasts (NOCO) maritime manoeuvre will take place from 16 to 22 September 2024.
Protecting the northern flank is an elementary focus of the German Navy in national and alliance defence as well as demonstrating the capabilities of NATO naval forces in the Baltic Sea region. The aim of NOCO 2024 is to practise tactical procedures in coastal waters in a national and alliance defence scenario - this time on Germany's own doorstep. It is essential to optimise interoperability between the participating naval, land and air forces and to further intensify cooperation between the partners in the Baltic Sea region. This year's exercise area mainly comprises the German coastal waters. The Northern Coasts exercise series was launched by the German Navy in 2007. It is the focal exercise of the German Navy's inspectorate. This year, more than 700 soldiers from nine nations (Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the USA) are taking part in the exercise. Nine ships and boats, several aircraft, a submarine and various land units are training together. This year's commander is Captain Kurt Leonards.
