Rohde & Schwarz Emirates receives order for communication systems for new Gulf Navy corvettes

Rohde & Schwarz Emirates will equip the ships with NAVICS, an integrated, IP-based and fail-safe naval communications system that supports interoperability within the Gulf Cooperation Council. NAVICS will complement the existing external Line-of-Sight (VHF/UHF) and Beyond-Line-of-Sight (HF) communication solutions. In addition to external communication, NAVICS also ensures internal communication on board and guarantees a multi-level security architecture that enables secure, trustworthy and tamper-proof communication. This means that third parties cannot interfere with the exchange of information. "We are very proud to have been selected by this Gulf Navy," explains Ernest Joseph Yasso, Vice President Military and Government Solutions, Rohde...

Bronze sets for the military leadership

RADM Dave Oliver, USN (ret.): A Navy Admiral's Bronze Rules: Managing Risk and Leadership, USNI, 252 pp. While there is still hardly any literature in German-speaking countries on the leadership experiences and recommendations of generals and admirals that would be suitable for future generations of officers, the U S Naval Institute (USNI) in Annapolis has been committed for years to preserving such leadership experiences for posterity and thus also for future military leaders. The following article provides an overview of the applicable Bundeswehr regulations and their equivalence and derivation from civilian laws and legal norms, which unanimously pursue the common goal of ensuring the day-to-day safe handling of naval vehicles designed primarily for military operations. Legal basis...

It came to Nordholz from MFG 5 in Kiel in 2012 to keep watch over all naval aircraft. Its restoration has now been completed and it has been back in its place in new splendour since 1 October. Thanks to the initiative of Chief Boatswain Adrian Weingart from the NH 90 technical squadron, the aircraft was made fit for the future last year by comrades and employees from the Bundeswehr and Airbus Helicopter. In addition to repairing the rotor blades and the rotor head, various holes had to be closed....

USS Connecticut Investigation result: Grounding

So there are still blank spots on the maps of the earth after all! At least on the charts of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) in the Pentagon, there must be previously unknown shallows. This is the conclusion one can come to when reading the results of the US Navy's accident investigation into the accident involving the USS Connecticut (Seawolf-class nuclear submarine) in the South-East Asian Pacific at the beginning of October. The submerged submarine is said to have run aground on a previously unmeasured shoal. The damage to the outer hull of the boat was described as minor. There were also only minor injuries to the crew. This is the official version. As is well known...
