Contract awarded for the construction of U 212CD

Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has been officially commissioned to build six Class 212CD submarines. The procurement organisations of Norway and Germany have already signed the corresponding contracts. The order comprises the delivery of four submarines to the Norwegian Navy and two to the German Navy as well as additional logistical services and training resources. The order is worth around 5.5 billion euros. The ceremony to mark the major order took place today (30 August) at the development and shipyard site in Kiel. First greetings from the land of the rising sun

The Bavarians continue their journey to East Asia. After a pass with the Indian frigate Trikand, the soldiers on board have now had their first opportunity to brush up on their knowledge of the Japanese language and etiquette. Saxony-Class receives new radar equipment

The three Class 124 frigates will receive new radar equipment for air surveillance over the next few years. According to the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), four TRS-4D/LR ROT systems will be procured. They will replace the SMART-L from the Dutch manufacturer Signaal, now Thales Naval Nederland, currently on board. The new radar systems are being developed and produced by the Taufkirchen-based company Hensoldt. Flotilla admiral personnel carousel

Four officers with the rank of flotilla admiral are changing posts this month. Christian Bock, Commander of Operational Flotilla 1 and Director of the NATO Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters in Kiel, is leaving his post to take up the post of Director of Training at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College in Hamburg. Bock is also Chairman of the German Maritime Institute, which publishes the magazine marineforum and is behind the online presence of the same name.
