Mitsubishi launches MRRV
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding is also celebrating: the first of two new vessels for the Philippine Coast Guard was launched today (26 July) with colourful balloons and ribbons at the shipyard in Shimonoseki, southern Japan. The Multi-Role Response Vessels (MRRV) will be used for SAR missions, including in heavy weather and for patrols in offshore and coastal areas. Operations against smugglers will be at the centre of activities. The MRRVs, which are almost 97 metres long and displace 2,260 tonnes, can travel at a maximum speed of 24 knots. The operational radius is 4000 nautical miles. In addition to RHIBs, the 67-strong crew will also have a Remotely Operated Battleship at their disposal for the missions.
