Climate protection concerns us all

As the current events of rampant forest fires, heatwaves and heavy rainfall show, the Climate change the greatest threat to humanity. MTU, the Power Systems division of Rolls-Royce, has set itself the goal of achieving the following by 2050 climate neutral and is committed to the Paris Climate agreement. To this end, the Sustainable Power Solutions business unit was established with the Net Zero programme to bring solutions for a sustainable energy and drive future to the market.

Naval forces, coast guards and other authorities rely on diesel engines from MTU, which are designed to meet the complex requirements of naval vessels. In recent years, various innovations have already helped to make the exhaust gases from these engines ever cleaner. By 2030, the emissions generated during operation are now to be reduced by a further 35 per cent compared to 2019, and by 2050 the ships are to be climate neutral go to sea. An ambitious goal! Where diesel and gas engines currently provide energy and propulsion, various technologies could soon be used: Combustion engines with sustainable fuels, but also hybrid systems or fuel cells.
