US Navy wants to buy two "Arleigh Burke" per year and develop a DDG(X) concept at the same time
The navy wants to produce two Destroyer of the Arleigh Burke Flight III class and at the same time develop its new DDG(X) programme, the Pentagon announced on Wednesday. The service life of 35 to 40 years will result in a force of 70 to 80 large surface combatants. "And two ships a year gives the Navy the dominance in multiple domains it needs to ensure the security and prosperity of the United States, and ensures the health of our great shipbuilding industry, which I cannot emphasise enough," he added. "Strategic competition requires industrial strength, and we must take action to maintain that capability," Rear Admiral Paul Schlise said at a symposium of the American Society of Naval Engineers.
