On 25 August 2021, the Maritime Cluster Northern Germany (MCN) and MakerCube jointly hosted the fourth Trainee network meeting. In workshops, the participants were able to lend a hand themselves and had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the diversity of additive manufacturing, regardless of their training profession.
Digital manufacturing technologies, including 3D printing, are becoming increasingly important for maritime companies. Whether for the construction of models, the production of prototypes and small series or the repair of components. Using the necessary tools requires not only digital skills, but also curiosity and knowledge of the possibilities. That is why the aim of this Network meeting Apprentices and their use - specifically in the area of 3D printing and material processing through the use of digitally controlled tools. In working groups, the trainees learnt about the use and handling of two digital production technologies. 2D designs were realised in the laser cutter, with the companies' logos laser-cut into neon acrylic glass. In the second part, the Trainees The students learnt about the "Shaper Tool" and were allowed to operate the hand-held CNC milling machine themselves. "The event had the character of a workshop. A great combination of practice and theory, which brings new knowledge to the participants and to the companies," says Peter Moller, Branch Manager of MCN Schleswig-Holstein.
Digital manufacturing technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling and water jet cutting have been on the market for a long time. The decisive difference is the increasingly easy-to-use software and the growing range of high-quality yet affordable machines. These technologies offer a lot of potential for companies to experiment with the construction of prototypes. "It is therefore particularly important for Apprentices It is important to educate yourself in these areas in particular so that you can identify and implement potential applications in your own company," says Katja Vedder from MakerCube.sh.
The Trainee network of the Maritime Cluster Northern Germany (MCN) offers Trainees with a connection to the maritime industry have the opportunity to Network beyond the boundaries of their own training profession. The network has existed since 2019. During sailing trips and other team events, the Trainees of the Trainee network innovative ideas, exchange ideas about projects and thus promote their professional and personal development. MCN trainee network is a working group of the Personnel and Qualification Division that is specifically aimed at trainees.
