This includes an improvement in material operational capability, more money for structural change and an adjustment of standards.

The current maritime operations in UNIFIL off Lebanon, in the monitoring of refugee movements between Turkey and Greece in the Aegean Sea and in the EU mission Irini off Libya are tying up the navy considerably. According to Kaack, these missions have also impaired combat readiness. The 100 billion euro package for the German Armed Forces will only increase the operational capability of the navy in the long term and not quickly: No additional ship will be launched, no additional helicopter will take off tomorrow and no new building will be ready for occupation tomorrow.
