In a festive ceremony today (30 July), the Russian nuclear submarine cruiser Krasnoyarsk was launched. Guests at the Sevmash shipyard on this occasion included the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Antoliyevich Evmenov, and the Governor of the Arkhangelsk region, Alexander Tsybulsky. The submarine was first pulled out of the construction hall at a speed of around one metre per minute. Ivan Artyushin, captain 2nd rank and commander of the Krasnoyarsk, smashed a bottle of Crimean champagne against the rudder of the new warship on the way. Finally, the boat was able to enter the water for the first time.
The Krasnoyarsk is a boat of the Jasen -M-class (Project 885M) is categorised by the Russians as an underwater missile cruiser. She is the third boat of the Jasen-class and was laid down in 2014. The submarines, which displace 8,600 tonnes and are 130 metres long, are powered by a pressurised water reactor. In addition to ten torpedo tubes with a diameter of 533 millimetres, eight vertical launchers for cruise missiles of the Oniks or Kalibr type are available. According to the Russian news agency Tass, the commissioning of the Krasnoyarsk planned for the end of 2022.
