Mailbag handover between the Braunschweig and the Sultan Iskandar Muda

Mailbag in front of Lebanon

Mailbag delivery! Well, actually the marine forum We don't write about such routine activities, but in this case we are making an exception for the sake of the rare photo. Off the coast of Lebanon last Saturday, 10 July, there was an encounter between the German corvette Brunswick with the Indonesian Sultan Iskandar Muda. The exchange of objects between the warships during the voyage was practised.
Both units are part of the Unifil mission, whose maritime component, Task Force 448, is currently led by German Flotilla Admiral Axel Schulz. The Indonesian corvette was built by Damen in the Netherlands and commissioned in 2008. At a good 90 metres in length, it displaces 1700 tonnes. The ship is armed with a 76-millimetre Oto Melara cannon and four Exocet MM40s for engaging surface targets.
The only question that remains is what was in the mail bags that were exchanged. According to the Indonesians, no secret documents were exchanged and photos and souvenirs were handed over as proof of the friendship between the two countries.
