Raytheon Anschütz is Anschütz again

The name Anschütz has stood for expertise in the navigation of ships for over a hundred years. The Kiel-based company now has a new owner in DMB Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH. Raytheon Anschütz GmbH will become Anschütz GmbH in future.

DMB (Dr Dieter Murmann Beteiligungsgesellschaft) acquires the entire Anschütz Group with its headquarters in Kiel and international offices and branches in Panama City, Portsmouth (UK), Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai and Singapore. Anschütz is thus returning to a German owner and to the traditional company name with which the company has produced numerous innovations since 1905 and has become a well-known name in the shipping industry.

Anschütz is a manufacturer and integrator of navigation, bridge and mission systems for surface and underwater vessels as well as an industrial partner in several national and international maritime research projects. The product range includes gyrocompasses, autopilots, rudder control systems, radar systems, electronic nautical charts and electronic logbooks. Around 30,000 ships worldwide are sailing with Anschütz products and are supported by the Anschütz Group and a global network of certified sales and service partners. The change of ownership includes all existing receivables and obligations, so that business relationships with customers and partners remain unaffected.

The Anschütz company was founded in 1905 by Dr Hermann Anschütz-Kaempfe after he invented the gyrocompass for ships. Supported by Albert Einstein, Anschütz continued to develop his compass over the years until production of the well-known dual gyro compass began in 1925. Over the decades, Anschütz was able to revolutionise shipping with numerous innovations, including the so-called iron helmsman, the chart plotter, the track control system and the first integrated navigation system with type approval. In 1995, Anschütz became part of Raytheon Company, later Raytheon Technologies. During this time, Anschütz has expanded its product range to include radar systems and electronic nautical charts and has developed into an integrator of sophisticated bridge systems and customised mission systems (situation picture).

In December 2022, DMB signed a purchase agreement with Raytheon Technologies, which became effective on 27 February 2023 following the official approvals that have now been granted. The change of name from Raytheon Anschütz GmbH to Anschütz GmbH will be officially completed with the entry in the commercial register.

DMB is a medium-sized industrial group, also based in Kiel, which stands for diversified expertise in the maritime industry and international business, but also for financial strength in a stable and globally active group, as well as for long-term commitment over generations.
