Today, the EGV "Frankfurt am Main" returned from the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD) in Wilhelmshaven.
08 December 2024
Under the command of frigate captain Hanno Weisensee, the crew set sail from Wilhelmshaven in May 2024 to take part in IPD 2024 together with the frigate "Baden- Württemberg". The operation took the crew around the world. For example, the naval unit was deployed in New York, Honolulu, Tokyo, Incheon, Singapore and Goa. Looking back, the IPD was a voyage with many tasks and challenges for the crew. These included many highlights and lasting memories, such as the German Navy's first participation in the world's largest maritime manoeuvre, Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC). But also the passage of the Panama Canal, the Straits of Taiwan and Malacca - in short - the impressions of the entire voyage will remain in the memory. The crew members were particularly impressed by the experience gained with NATO and non-NATO partners, e.g. in terms of compatibility and adaptability.
The "Frankfurt am Main" has travelled approx. 42,000 nautical miles (approx. 77,780 km). The ship returns home with 191 servicemen and women. This means that the ship has travelled around the world almost twice. In addition to the crew on board, there was also an on-board helicopter component from Naval Air Wing 5 from Nordholz with two Sea Lynx MK 88A and an on-board medical team.
Hopefully the Bw press offices (with the support of marineforum.online) will succeed in placing this great achievement of the crew (as far as I know, the crew was not replaced, unlike the Baden-Württemberg) in the German media. The men and women deserved to have their achievements publicised.
Incidentally, the performance of the current crew of the Baden-Württemberg, which is travelling seamlessly into the one VN mission, is also impressive.
It is gratifying that the MarineForum reports on this world tour of the two units. The OstSEE-Zeitung has virtually nothing to say about it.
