Warning strike at the Port of Hamburg - The power of the trade unions

The recent warning strikes in the public sector also affected shipping traffic in Hamburg. A targeted action by the trade union Verdi almost paralysed the port of Hamburg. According to a spokesperson for the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), the pilots were no longer able to reach the ships requiring pilotage because the pilot transfer service was on strike.

Without pilots, container ships are not allowed to pass through the port of Hamburg and have to wait in the North Sea or block the terminal. It has not been announced how many ships were affected by the strikes.
