#meerverstehen - the blog about maritime topics

We are #meerverstehen!

We're back - in a new look and in a new digital neighbourhood!

We wrote about this in our first article in April 2014:

Meer Verstehen is a blog about maritime topics, that is:
Maritime security policy and the German Navy will find their place here, as will the presentation of innovative technologies, insights into the travel behaviour of shoals of tuna and reflections on our society's dependence on the sea. Everything that swims and dives and is or can become important for us humans will be covered!

Almost seven years and over 170 posts later, we have no intention of changing this premise: #meerverstehen remains the blog of the German Maritime Institute (DMI) e.V. on maritime topics and will continue to support the German-speaking maritime community with new impetus and new ideas.

Since the beginning of January 2021, we have found ourselves in a new environment: marineforum.online is the digital alliance of the MarineForum, the German Maritime Expertise Network (DMKN), the blog #meerverstehen and, most recently, the Naval Innovation Team (NIT) - maritime knowledge from a single source! Furthermore, the German Maritime Institute (DMI), the Naval Officers' Association (MOV) and the Naval Officers' Aid Organisation (MOH) have found their common digital home here.

  1. I've just realised that I need to correct myself. It's not the Kaiser's Admirals that are currently leading the discussion, but the contribution to the Laboe Memorial, which beats the Admirals 21:6.

  2. The extensive merging of the blog and MarineForum online with a standardised comment function is a major step forward. It revitalises the discussion. Whereas in the old blog it was the article on why Germany will never have an aircraft carrier, now it is the Kaiser's admirals that elicit the most response. In a few years' time, it will be interesting to see which topics have had the greatest resonance. Let's hope that participation remains as lively as it has been.
