The British destroyer Defender has ended its participation in NATO Operation Sea Guardian and, together with the Dutch frigate Evertsen Istanbul for a short port call. Both ships are part of the UK Carrier Strike Group 21 around the Queen Elizabeth. Now the Defender head for the Black Sea for a detour.
Over the past few weeks, the Type 45 destroyer has been involved with Sea Guardian, providing situational awareness in the Mediterranean and screening suspicious vessels carrying weapons or other supplies destined for terrorist organisations. "After more than twelve months of preparations and the added challenges of the pandemic, it's fantastic to be part of the UK Carrier Strike Group," said Commander Vincent Owen, Commander of the Defender.
