Every year, shortly before the end of the year, Captain Broder Nielsen, Commander of the Naval Aviation, calls his officer corps together for the traditional Commanders Call in the officers' mess. After a review of achievements and a look into the future, the best aircraft engineering officer of the past year was honoured. This honour was presented on behalf of the Naval Officers' Association (MOV) by the Commodore of Naval Air Wing 3 "Graf Zeppelin", Captain Oliver Ottmüller, in his capacity as regional representative of the MOV.
Captain Lieutenant Jonas Schoepke, a young officer from MFG5, was selected as the winner in 2023. After completing his master's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg and completing the regular specialised and advanced training courses in 2020, he successfully completed his training as an aircraft engineering officer. This was followed by assignments in the Mk41 Sea King Technical Squadron, initially as Head of Avionics and subsequently as Head of Maintenance.
Lieutenant Commander Schoepke was exceptionally successful in acquiring the necessary skills in his first two command assignments and "impressed with his empathy and tact in dealing with and leading the personnel under his command", according to the commander of the technical group, Frigate Captain Martin Poppitz.
Due to his special performance and personality and his positive demeanour, Captain Schoepke rightly belongs to the absolute top performers and was awarded the MOV Admiral Kriebel Prize, particularly in view of his outstanding achievements in MFG5.
Following the award ceremony, MOV hosted a drinks reception, which gave all those present the opportunity to discuss a wide range of topics from the past year.
